How did Jesus death give us eternal life?
How did Jesus death save us?
This is one of the most asked and never fully articulated questions about Jesus. Today I aim to not only clear up some confusion but hopefully spark some curiosity in someone on the other side of this screen.
First, I want to quote two scriptures to bring this idea together. Let’s start with the first book, genesis, as well as John
“In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.”
John 1:1-4 NLT
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.”
Genesis 1:1-3 NLT
Let’s connect these two things together.
In th beginning of John here, the “he” that is referenced is Jesus. The son of God! Jesus is the third part of the holy trinity
1father
2son
3holy spirit
All are different parts of a whole essence.
Jesus’ part is the word. God created everything we know, all that exist and that will exist through his words. And that word, that tool of creation is the “son” Jesus!
And so all light and all beings were made through him aka Gods word!
If you recall the first video in our series we talked about why God allows bad things to happen. This is because God is good weather we are good or bad. So God allows all humans good and bad to choose to either follow his ways which are good and kind and loving, or to follow satan which leads people to do things that distance themselves from God and harm themselves or others.
But, there is still a punishment for doing bad in this life. In our second video we covered sin and how God never intended for any human to die. But if we choose to follow satan, God will allow our eternity to reflect our choice to be distant from him. God doesn’t force people to do good, because that would be wrong. But actions will still have consequences.
And we discussed that in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve first chose to disobey God, it broke the perfect connection that he created human beings to have. So in order to restore that connection, God took his word (Jesus the son) and made him into a human being. Not only so he could deeply feel life and the struggles of humanity from our perspective, but to die in a human body while being part God himself, and resurrect with that same human/god form to reconnect humans with the spiritual experience we were always meant to have.
